Afro Power!!!!

In the past couple of weeks I have gone crazy. I have done two things.

1) I have decided I like my hair curly, and I will no longer be a slave to the ceramic hot iron

2) I have given up meat, right now I am still eating fish, but by the end of this month I plan to be lacto ovo.

Why you ask? You really didn't ask, but I am going to tell you anyway.

Why curly hair?

For the past eight years I have been relaxer free. I have been this way not because of my stance on rejecting european beauty standards or to embrace my african side, but just because relaxers hurt like hell. Perm does not feel good on my innocent tender scalp. It burns, leaves sores on my head, it is just not pretty. I am a sissy and cannot take the pain of the creamy crack in my head. Over the last eight years I have had weak moments and wanted to just go back to relaxer, but my scalp begged and pleaded for me not to do this.

In that eight years I have worn one of three hairstyles consistently. The ponytail with the afro puff in the back, the bun, and cermic hot iron straight as a board. My hair is fairly long, so to get that straight as a board look it takes about two to three hours to straighten with a regular ceramic hot iron. I have great upper arm strength as a result. The ponytail although simple, looks as if I just don't give a damn, and the bun makes me look like the evil female teacher you hated in school because she gave more homework than anyone. Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing 666.

I am just tired of these hair dos. For some reason I have felt the only way I could wear my hair down is when straight, but I have been mistaken. I came across a really great website, NaturallyCurly.com , which lead me to a great book, Curly Girl by Lorraine Massey, which lead me to great product to try, DevaCurl.

So far so good, and I am learning alot. For instance, product can keep my hair from growing east to west, like it used to when I would wash and go and use no product at all. Also the concept of not using shampoo and instead conditioner is a break through for me. I am also learning about a ton of new products, which is turning me into a product junkie. i am thinking of doing reviews of new stuff I try as I come across it. Not to mention it is nice just to wash and go and not feel I am not combing my hair and I look like crap when I do such things. I can look professional/trendy/attractive with curly hair!!! I know such a crazy concept!!!

Why go vegetarian?

For the past couple of weeks I have not eaten any meat, except fish. Why? Because I am fat. Like uber fat, like gross nasty fat. Like I am Jabba the Hut fat. As a result I am tired of being fat. At my skinniest, the reason I was so skinny was because I was not eating meat. I looked great, felt great, and I would like to again. It is the only diet I was able to stick with for longer than two days. So I am doing this for purely selfish reasons. I feel also I can cut back on portions of food, since I like to eat my food in tons rather than single portions. I am currently reading up and trying to prepare myself to go completely veg. This month isn't about weight loss, it is about adjusting to this new lifestyle, after this month it is about weight loss. Hopefully eating veggies and not hamburgers will affect my waistline, as well as help the environment and the poor animals.

Anyway this blog will be about my hair, make up, and diet, and hopefully I can track my changes here at least weekly. Let's keep our fingers crossed that I can stay natural and vegetarian.
